for the most part the sin is getting caught. if someone doesn't catch you and get you to go to the elders it didn'thappen witness the committee with one new elder out to make a point, one who was covering up wife's drunkeness and his adultery both, and one who was a serious child beater to the point of physical damage. so who grieved the holy spirit? the 4th guy involved was the kind who would take the word of a worldly person given as hearsay to another non baptized person, then to the wife as a witness just to make sure the cahrges stuck this particular family ended up in the back room hashing things out with EVERY family in the hall

I wonder if California courts would take on a complaint? It seems that there is a "record" kept by the committee. And the communication is Not confined to the parties present. I would think this applys to things like money matters, divorce, things that should be private. In any other serious matter in the world you are allowed to have advice from a lawyer, doctor, or whoever know about the matter.
Around here they won't even let the parents have a say or interject any thoughts, but they are required to be present. so everyone can be properly disciplinned. then it is off to home for a double shot and supper

JW Parents and kicking out their children
by NJ501 inis it a common practice for jw parents to kick their children out of the home, if the child doesn't want to be a jw.
(even though their not disfellowshipped they will still get kicked out for not going to meetings etc.??).
do other religions encourage kicking family members out this as well?

There is pressure from some self righteous ones to kick the kid out. No matter that being in the home is the "law of the Land" and what influence you have is lost once they move. Then brother self righteous and his friends have trouble with their kids, and cover it over big time. I no longer believe in real concern from the leaders.

JW renaming things: "It's Not this, it's ....."
by Muddy Waters inthis was brought up in another thread, but i thought it should have its own thread.
feel free to add your own observations and experience.
the jws are so duplicit, and they rename things to somehow justify their own irrationalities.

I have to agree that they are not hymns. Not even, for the most part, decent music.

Watchtower study today - best practice in word
by Gorbatchov indue to family reasons gorby was present today.. the watchtower study was about refugee's.. how to treat refugee's, jw and non believers, and help them spiritual, not financial.
nothing new.. what i mentioned is the juridical message underneath the whole story.
don't talk politics, listen to government regulations etc.. most bizar is that a whole congregation that normaly avoid giving any aid to people in need, this morning gave the best practice in word about what to do with refugee's.. if the subject was not that serious, this hypocracy could be funny.

4th generation not a lot of family
like a lot, I really wanted it to all be true but have been disappointed too many times
it bothers me to see how few paramedics, nurses, or anything other than convenience store attendants there are when compared to workmates and neighbors no ambition is allowed

Some thoughts on the committee stuff. Back in the old days I got involved and summoned by the presiding overseer and friends or whatever they were called. They were fair, concerned, handled the matter. This was the old 3 man setup they say did not working right. At least in this congregation it worked really well. I can't say the same for later committees I know about despite the men being appointed by a supposedly superior system. They are mostly kangaroo courts.
I was never appointed, now don't even want to read if my hours came up. And I want to scream every time someone worries about some teen not getting with the program. I think they understand the program quite enough. I don't know what to say to my kids or grandkids.
